This Little Piggy..went on Tour

One of my favourite things about doing photo shoots (other than the photography of course) is hanging out with my more ‘well known’ clients and finding out quirky fun things about them that you wouldn’t necessarily see in a magazine or any other form of media. Yesterday I shot with Guthrie Govan for Rotosound Music. There was a tiny window of opportunity in his travels from Italy, where he came home to the UK before heading off to the USA today – an endless scene of hotel rooms and tour vans. We managed to grab a portion of that time. I got on really well with Guthrie when we last shot some pics back in 2010. We recounted the memories of our last shoot and lunch ordeal afterwards at the local pub in Hackney as we walked past 3 years later – it’s nice when really busy people get together after a long time and pick up where they left off. While setting up, Guthrie got out his new Charvel guitar. Beautiful instrument! Then he got all excited as he pulled out of his guitar case a plastic toy piggy that squeaked and snorted when you squeezed its belly. Hilarious! […]

LIVE: The Temperance Movement, London UK

Wednesday night, I went to the Scala in London to snap The Temperance Movement’s (TTM) show. I first heard these guys last year when Glen (The Husband) had listened to a track of theirs on Planet Rock Radio, came home and immediately bought the Pride E.P. from iTunes. We followed TTM ever since, and I was looking forward to the opportunity of shooting a live show. Their blues-drenched soulful rock ‘n’ roll sound appeals to me just as much as a good heavy rock/metal show. At the end of last month TTM signed to Earache Records shortly after doing a couple of UK shows supporting their-now label buddies Rival Sons. It really was no surprise that they were snapped up fast. Their 12 song set was packed full of energy, swagger and guitar tones to die for from start to end. TTM remind me of those Rock ‘n’ Roll greats (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones) where their performance is like one big jamming session that’s a joy and a priviledge to be a part of. Frontman Phil Campbell had the packed venue in the palm of his hand. Imagine the stage presence of Mick Jagger, with a manner like Larry Grayson, […]

Flames, Swords and Candy Pink!

Sounds like a trip to the circus maybe? Another time ;) I’ve had a couple of portrait photo shoots and work published. Live photography can become a bit monotonous at times. You have to make the dullest visuals look interesting and tell a story – I’m not afraid to admit that sometimes it’s difficult. That’s until you are booked to shoot a band that goes to town with their performance. ‘Fire pictures’ were ones that I ticked off my mental “wish list” last time I shot German Industrial Metallers – Rammstein. Needless to say, I was more than excited to be shooting them again at the O2 Arena! Deathstars supported them on the ‘Made in Germany Tour’ and I had a shoot and some backstage pics with them (they will appear at a later date). I shot this bit of footage on my iPhone at the start of the show. If you haven’t seen Rammstein live, it gives you just a tiny taster of the work they put into the show. You can check out their Official music videos to see what they get up to on stage. It’s a feast for the eyes! That walkway lowered down and the […]

Poster Giveaway Winner & Behind the Scenes!

Hello and Happy New Year! Hope you all enjoyed the festivities and celebrations! Just before Christmas I ran a giveaway competition – a chance to win a signed poster of Simone Simons who was Miss December in the Dolls ‘n’ Divas 2011 Calendar. I was overwhelmed with all your entries – well into the hundreds and all with the right answer ( I think maybe I will make it a bit more difficult next time ;) ). Thank you all for entering! The correct answer was of course Kathleen Turner, who did the speaking voice for Jessica Rabbit in the movie ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’. The lucky winner is Doug Yauch from Minnesota, USA. Your poster is on its way with warm wishes from Simone! Congratulations! — Just before I log off for the day, I wanted to let you in on some of the fun that we had in making the Calendar. A couple of collages of the ‘best bits’ once the serious work was out of the way….mostly! You can click on the images to view our silly faces larger. There will be a couple more pieces of news to come soon from the 2011 Dolls ‘n’ Divas […]
