Live: Rival Sons in London

I had heard some great things about Rival Sons; that they have been named the next Led Zeppelin. That’s some quite big shoes to fill. Monday night, they played the Electric Ballroom in Camden. I’ve photographed many bands at this venue in my career so far – from Shinedown to Fear Factory, but this was the first Rock ‘n’ Roll show. A different vibe, and (I think) Sold Out crowd that erupted with applause and cheering as they came on stage and went straight into ‘Keep on Swinging’. My first impression. WOW. My second, “Oh yeah, I’m here to take pictures!” Singer ‎Jay Buchanan‎ looked like a cross between Steven Tyler, Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger – the guy has serious style. His stage presence, enigmatic and his fancy footwork matching his vocal ability. I was definitely loving his shoes! I looked around at such a wide range of ages in the audience getting into the music – the kids as if they were literally witnessing rock ‘n’ roll for the first time and lapping it up. Rival Sons have the complete package, and there’s no ignoring them. I had also heard Jimmy Page was in attendance…wonder what he thought. […]

ESO at Madame Jo Jo’s

ESO have been teasing everyone for the past month or so with a name change (formerly esOterica), promo pictures, website re-vamp and music video trailers like this All leading to a sold out Special Album Preview show last week that I was more than happy to attend on an extremely hot evening in Soho, London. Everyone was very tightly packed together, including the gear on the tiny stage. Thank goodness the venue was air conditioned! A small LED sign fixed centre stage that read ‘ESO’ flickered sporadically before showtime – like a curtain call, enticing everyone to grab a drink and head for a good view. They played for just over half an hour and showed the video for their new single. It’s hard to believe ESO haven’t played live in a year, it was evident they enjoyed being back on stage again. Reading all the feedback on their Facebook page from this show, it’s safe to say they have every one chomping at the bit. Good job that yesterday they announced a UK tour for July! Here’s a few pics from the launch show Great to have you back again guys! Mx

Godsized – Flight & Survive

Godsized, like most bands, have their fair share of good and bad things that happen. Recently they were invited to play for the US Troops at RAF Lakenheath. This was definitely one of those good things! Not only did the guys get to entertain a great crowd, but also have a delicious American dinner AND a tour of the F15 aircraft. A real honour! Due to the restricted nature of military aircraft, we were only allowed small cameras and phones in to take pictures. I couldn’t be pedantic about my iPhone photos – not with an opportunity like this to share with you all, so they aren’t the best quality. Gav sits in the Pilots seat & Glen was the only one to brave the internal steps to the aircraft. Chuck, Aaron & J. Scott gave us the tour and talked about different scenarios that they face in the air force, the missiles and bombs that were on display in the hangar and parts of the aircraft. Beautiful isn’t it?! Kav summed the tour up perfectly. It was so serene and still while we were there – with just the low buzzing of the lights in the hangar, but then […]

Godsized – London Revelation

Godsized are on tour with My Ruin around the UK at the moment for the Southern Revelation Tour. I went along to their London date to do some promos and snap some live pics. Around last year I was at the Scala for a different show and spotted a really cool location for a photo shoot. So while the other bands were sound checking, I set up in a stair well with really huge windows on a curved wall, along with a mosaic tiled floor. Really unusual. Here’s one of the final shots (click to view larger) Godsized kicked serious ass live. It was a very different crowd as My Ruin have a particular kind of following, but the guys went down really well. Here’s a few live pics They have just over a week left on the tour. Check here for a list of the remaining dates and also their up-and-coming dates including their Mini Tour of Europe in April. Also, they have a Special Limited Edition Tour T-Shirt – only available while they’re on the road. It has all the show dates on the back. (picture courtesy of Godsized) Be sure to grab one at a show before […]
