If you’re in the UK, you’re most likely enjoying your 4 day weekend. For me? There’s still some work involved, but that’s how I like it. Here’s an update of my work in the press. Very happy to have shot a Godsized poster for their latest trip to Germany. The shoot, was at times, beyond hilarious! I must share some of the out-take pics with you all. The poster is currently printed and sold at A2 size. There’s also postcard sized stickers available. Then there’s the pic spread for Terrorizer Magazine feature ‘Hard of Hearing’, with Killswitch Engage and Trivium just before their show in London. You can see from the pics it was also rather entertaining when the photo shoot part gets mentioned! Various live and random pics of Therion, Arcturus, Iced Earth, Orange Goblin, Matt Harvey (eating a dog called Widget?!) and Killswitch Engage beating up the Terrorizer Features Editor – Tom – with the help of Trivium (Adam D pulling Tom’s hair is just brilliant, as he asked him first if he could do it!) You know those moments when you can’t stop grinning? That was me last night. I was at the Roundhouse in Camden with Seventh Circle Artworks (SCA) shooting with both Down and their main support band Orange Goblin. In my time of shooting shows, I have snapped Orange Goblin live maybe 3 or 4 times, so was really looking forward to actually meeting them in person for a brief promo shoot. They were all quite happy despite not liking their pictures taken, just like many guys in bands I work with. They also joked about how all their promo pictures seem to be around or near a bar. After a couple of semi-serious poses I asked them to do something funny. The only thing they could come up with was to “punch Joe in the face!” Ben is a towering 6ft 4 (at least), but a very friendly guy with it. And yes, I would have needed a step ladder to speak to him at eye level. A scorcher of a weekend in many ways! It was hot, hot, HOT! The first High Voltage and it certainly rocked. A line up that made my mouth water with bands that I really dig and some I haven’t photographed before, I was stoked. After collecting my passes and finding my way around the festival I started shooting at Main Stage with The Answer and Gary Moore. I wouldn’t be shooting the Prog stage at all as Planet Loud weren’t too interested in that side of things for their audience. I also shot Orange Gobin, Hammerfall, Cathedral and Saxon. Mid afternoon, I grabbed some lunch and the 100th bottle of water as the heat was immense. I sat backstage to find the Black Label Society crew preparing the area for the show with fire, confetti and large beach balls with the BLS logo on. The highlights of Saturday for me were Black Label Society and ZZ Top. I unfortunately missed photographing Heaven & Hell with their tribute to Ronnie James Dio as I was queuing for the photo pit for Black Label Society. A real mix of a festival, being quite family orientated so I secured the Rock Sound Tent for the few days and just focussed on that. Lovely weather and a great vibe, the Rock Sound tent was always busy in the day and absolutely rammed in the evenings. I met up with a few photographer friends and we chilled in the “backstage” area (being some rolled up mats and a little peace and quiet. A few of the bands on the bill I was looking forward to photograph. One band wasn’t on this particular stage, good friends of mine – Sym-Choon – they were on the 2nd stage so I whizzed over to them to photograph their set. Other than that; great friends Sennah, Exit Ten and Orange Goblin were at the Rocksound stage. To sum up the weekend I’ve made a montage of each day’s favourite shots I took. The colours are as vibrant as the festival was – that’s the best way I can describe it. A real buzz and I’d happily photograph there again. But definitely just the Rock stage I think.
