Epica in London

Last month, Epica came to London to do press for their album ‘The Quantum Enigma‘ – which is due for release on May 2nd. I was booked to shoot for their Terrorizer interview. The setting? To go to one of London’s tourist hotspots and shoot Simone and Mark in a political style. Definitely something that you wouldn’t normally see in any of their other pictures! Parliament Square was the location of choice – as you can imagine – it was very very busy. Being there with my camera equipment could have also been quite tricky, but it ended up going very well and I was pleased with the results. It was very very cold that day (unlike the sunshine and light winds that the forecasters predicted). This image didn’t make the feature, so I can share it with you – one of my favourites. Simone and Mark hadn’t seen Big Ben or the Houses of Parliament before, so they really enjoyed walking around the shoot location too. We found a phone box and did a few fun pictures that you will also see in the Magazine. Simone found the classic London red phone box, and we laughed as it reminded […]

Shooting Simone

Not literally of course! Sorry to keep you all waiting for this blog post, I have lots of things I’m working on at the moment and I can’t wait to share them with you. When Simone came to the UK for all the press bits and also IMATS – my previous blog post, we also had a bit of fun at mine doing a photo shoot. Jessica-Leigh has a tea pot toy that sings various songs, talks and makes noises, it’s one of her favourites. Simone liked this as much as a real good English cup of tea. She also met one of my cats – Gibson, who is a bit of a camera lover and poses on cue. He loves fusses, especially from ladies. MegaBeth joined in too, and swapped jackets for a silly picture. A Slipknot fan in disguise? haha. We did some serious fashion style pics as well as being silly. This is my favourite. It was a good time until the snow came and Simone’s flight got cancelled. So we ended up having a movie marathon and cooking a roast dinner. I guess it could have been worse ;) Mx

Dolls ‘n’ Divas – Miss December + Giveaway!

A little into December but definitely worth the wait! Simone Simons is the hottie this month and a great way to end the year on the Dolls ‘n’ Divas Calendar. My inspiration for this shoot was Jessica Rabbit from the movie ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, with Simone’s striking red hair it was perfect! Using a still from the movie, we created a scene for the shoot too Simone wore a red satin halter dress from Vivien of Holloway and her was hair styled by Marino Lambrix. Along with singing and writing for her band Epica, Simone loves all things photography, fashion and makeup related too – she did her own makeup for the calendar shoot. You can check out her personal blog here. To celebrate the end of the year I’m having a giveaway! You can win an A2 poster print (measures 420mm x 594mm) signed by Simone – it will be the image of Simone sitting on the green sofa mentioned in the above post. To enter: Answer the following question: Who did the speaking voice of Jessica Rabbit in ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’? Please send your answers to dollsndivas@mariegc.com with ‘Simone Giveaway‘ in your subject header. Entries must […]

18 – 22 JUNE 2009, HELLFEST, CLISSON – FRANCE

Firstly I was very fortunate to even make Hellfest. I had my ears syringed and unfortunately the doctor didn’t do it correctly resulting in a perforation in my left ear drum. An infection got in which left me with a swollen face, couldn’t eat or anything and some hearing impairment which I’m hoping will heal. I was on codeine and paracetamol and 3 lots of strong antibiotics. Still, me being a stubborn me bought some pro earplugs and went on my way to France – after all I had it all booked and wasn’t going to miss out.

I initially was to write a diary-like entry on here but didn’t want to bore you all with my drivel. So here’s the festival trip in brief: THURSDAY/FRIDAY…. • Killer of a journey – 11 hours all told from London – Lille – Kortrijk – Clisson. • Glorious sunshine and very impressive visuals at the festival. Arrived slightly later into the Friday – Buckcherry were on and playing ‘Crazy Bitch’. What a nice welcome :) • Friday I shot – Voivod, W.A.S.P., Anthrax, Papa Roach and Down • Hung with Parkway Drive who are awesome dudes. I think they used their meal tickets […]

16 – 18 AUGUST – BLOODSTOCK, DERBY – UK

A busy busy festival! Arriving the day before Showtime with the unsigned stage crew we had our own party on Wednesday after setting up the stage and rigging. Here’s the rest of the festival in brief as I was so busy on Main Stage, some Unsigned stage bands, backstage and the signing tent – a crazy time! Thursday – Photographed: Head On, Firewind, Kiuas and Testament live Signings – Chris Slade and Testament After I had photographed Testament’s first 3 songs I went back to Head-On’s dressing room and they were already drinking. Things got a bit crazy and the guys decided to feed Ross (the bass player) random things and I filmed it: VIDEO The night just got worse after that. Mark ended up being seen to by a paramedic as he wrestled someone to the ground badly and injured his hand. They drank vodka through their eyes and photographed each other going to the loo. HAHA. Friday – I was a bit knackered from the late night/early morning’s shenanigans. Got out of the tent to find the guys from Forever Never had arrived and I would be taking their pics after I have had breakfast and a damn […]
