DOWN IN BELGIUM – ‘FOUR DUDES AND ONE STAR’

A special trip for this shoot as my daughter Beth ‘MegaBeth’ as she calls herself, came with me for her first live show and photo shoot experience. Down were in town and I was shooting alongside friends Cindy and Rudy arranged by Roadrunner Europe. Venues are very different in Europe, you only get a few scattered fans outside the venue early and bands seem to be more chilled and willing to meet fans than in big cities like London. It was refreshing to see actually. We got to the venue and Down were sound checking. I took Beth in and we sat on the floor by the sound desk to watch. They were getting the levels right to ‘In the Thrall of it All’. Phil wasn’t happy with how the sound was so they took quite a bit of time on stage. MACHINE HEAD IN BELGIUM

My first ever pro band photo shoot with my favourite band. You can imagine my excitement. I travelled on the Eurostar to stay with my friend Cindy and as I arrived, first stop was a drive to the tattoo shop. I had said to myself that when I work with a band I would get a tattoo to commemorate. Not an actual band tattoo, but one that would remind me personally of the experience. I went to see Cindy’s friend at Tattoo Mike with a Fleur de Lys design that I really liked. Funny thing was I didn’t realise the significance of the Fleur de Lys. It’s the symbol for Lille – where I arrived on the Eurostar. That was a bonus for me. Shortly after my tattoo was done, we would get ready to go to the venue for the photo shoot and show. I was slightly nervous and excited. Lamb of God were there and walking past to catering saying “hey” every time. Very friendly guys.
