THE BLACK CRUSADE, LONDON – UK

The Monday after the weekend before. I’m feeling a little under the weather as everything has caught up with me. 2 shows with Machine Head and a fistful of memories. Saturday I went along and met up with The Frontliners and some of the Machine Head crew. I didn’t’ have a ticket or pass but we managed to buy a spare that someone had and I watched from the highest point of Brixton Academy. As I was rocking out I spotted someone at the corner of my eye that was really familiar. After the show I went backstage to say hi to Machine Head who heard I was at the venue. They invited me to the after show at Sin club. Machine Head would meet us there and we would catch the tube. As we are walking along the oh-so familiar face walking with us was the guy that was standing beside me with his wife. It was Colin Richardson – best known for recording many Machine Head albums, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold and more. We get chatting and he told me stories of being out in LA with Machine Head and dodging bullets on the way to the recording studio […]

22 – 24 JUNE, HELLFEST, CLISSON – FRANCE

My first festival abroad and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, gathering my thoughts on my return I have learnt a lot about culture, language barriers and myself. Setting off from Stansted Airport, London the weather was beautiful. Talita, Rachel and I were all in high spirits and even met some UK festival go-ers on the plane! We land in France and the weather is blustery and threatening. We were met by JP one of Talita’s friends and were taken to the festival location to meet the crew and set up the press area. Nicely decorated with decking, funky lights and felt floor decorations – the art guys there did a very good job. It was a shame that in the next hour it would all be totally ruined. With torrential rain, in a matter of moments, the place was flooded. Talita, Rachel and I had to pull up all the felt decorations and sweep the water out of the press area to save the electric cables that were running for the laptops etc. The French were not happy. Rachel and I have no idea what they said, but Talita tried to appease them while they shouted and pointed, […]

8 -10 JUNE, DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL, DONNINGTON – UK

Just a few days after getting back from my trip to Belgium for Machine Head, my friend Cindy was to join me in the UK for a trip to Donnington racetrack near Derby for the UK festival of the year – Download. We hadn’t sorted where to stay or how to get home; we only knew we would be travelling there with my friend’s friend. But that didn’t stop us. Friday – We arrived and put our luggage in Silverstein’s dressing room with the hope of securing a place to sleep during the course of the day and took a wander around the site. I found this super cool trike and insisted getting on to have a picture! I got to photograph Bloodsimple from the photo pit and also side stage. We hung out a little after their set. I was introduced to a guy called Mike Gitter from America. He was really cool and we watched Bring me the Horizon as he hadn’t seen them before from side stage for all of about 2 seconds and then he decided he had enough haha. We went back to Silverstein’s dressing room to chill for a bit and I noticed that […]

MACHINE HEAD IN BELGIUM

My first ever pro band photo shoot with my favourite band. You can imagine my excitement. I travelled on the Eurostar to stay with my friend Cindy and as I arrived, first stop was a drive to the tattoo shop. I had said to myself that when I work with a band I would get a tattoo to commemorate. Not an actual band tattoo, but one that would remind me personally of the experience. I went to see Cindy’s friend at Tattoo Mike with a Fleur de Lys design that I really liked. Funny thing was I didn’t realise the significance of the Fleur de Lys. It’s the symbol for Lille – where I arrived on the Eurostar. That was a bonus for me. Shortly after my tattoo was done, we would get ready to go to the venue for the photo shoot and show. I was slightly nervous and excited. Lamb of God were there and walking past to catering saying “hey” every time. Very friendly guys. I had never heard them before and was looking forward to the whole show. As we sat waiting, there was a lady that went up to Cindy and spoke in Dutch, I […]
