A special trip for this shoot as my daughter Beth ‘MegaBeth’ as she calls herself, came with me for her first live show and photo shoot experience.

Down were in town and I was shooting alongside friends Cindy and Rudy arranged by Roadrunner Europe. Venues are very different in Europe, you only get a few scattered fans outside the venue early and bands seem to be more chilled and willing to meet fans than in big cities like London. It was refreshing to see actually.

We got to the venue and Down were sound checking. I took Beth in and we sat on the floor by the sound desk to watch. They were getting the levels right to ‘In the Thrall of it All’. Phil wasn’t happy with how the sound was so they took quite a bit of time on stage. I then got a call saying to get ready for the shoot.
I took Beth backstage and we were told to set up the lights on the stage and have the amps as a background, I really liked that idea. Rudy took his pictures first, then Cindy then it was my turn. Phil turned and said to me “you’re not really a photographer are you? You just want these pictures for your bedroom wall!” We all laughed and I carried on shooting. Phil then turned to the rest of the guys in the band and suggested that they all drop their pants (trousers) for a picture. Then realising that Beth was there and thought better of it.

There was time at the end to have some pictures taken with the guys. I stood in between Phil and Pepper and told them to behave. Pepper spoke to me about cameras as he’s into photography too.

Beth had a picture with the guys and Phil picked her up, they all love children and you can see it on their faces. They totally look like they’re saying “don’t fuck with our baby girl!”

Off they all went to have a beer, smoke and sort their gear out. We were packing down and I hear a deep southern voice say “hey babygirl…” I turn around and it’s Phil, sitting on a chair having a smoke; he gestured for Beth to go over and he sat her on his lap. I don’t know what he said to her but all I heard at the end was “…and that’s why you shouldn’t skip school”. Haha, what a legend! He then signed their ‘Over the Under’ CD for her and she was given a guitar pick by Rex.

We watched the show and I took some live pics. Some can be seen in my picture folders.

What an experience for her! I don’t think she fully understood how cool that moment was. She will when she’s a teenager.
