ALL HOPE IS GONE TOUR, LONDON UK

At the Hammersmith Apollo with Machine Head supporting Slipknot was great! I arrived early into Machine Head’s press schedule and hung with Al in the Production Office while I waited for Phil to finish up and interview. Dave walked in with a huge smile and we hugged and caught up before he has to go and have his hourly fix of Starbucks. It was so cold here for him that he put on the thickest winter coat with fur trim before he braves the elements. I was just in a vest and jacket, but then again he is from Alameda, California so I couldn’t really blame him. Phil finishes up and gets ready for the shoot, looking at the new Ed Stone designs he’s going to wear. He suggested posing with his new Jackson custom with ram’s horns at the 12th fret. Of course I was up for that and we did the shoot. I did wonder afterwards about the hair band over his fingers like that but forgot to ask in the rush of everything. I will find out for you, if you’re intrigued like me. Back in the Production Office, Cheeky got the set lists ready and sorted […]

GODSIZED ‘WALKING AWAY’ VIDEO SHOOT

Holed up in an old meat market in Croydon, South London for a day, I went along to do photo stills and a promo shoot with Godsized. I walk into 2 hours gone of filming, smoke, effects lighting and the track ‘Walking Away’ blaring – everyone is really upbeat about the day which was good news as everything was going well then. Sitting with my cup of tea and a bacon buttie I watch and grab an essence of the idea before I picked up my camera and started work. 5 hours later, it was a wrap. Everyone cold, tired, fed up with hearing ‘Walking Away’ for the millionth time and time for the promo shoot! They took 5 to rest up and we started shooting. Clearly fed up with performing, they needed to have a bit of a laugh before getting down to the serious pictures. Oh and there’s more than that. In fact I have a whole load of pictures of Godsized from the small beginnings and line up changes which I will eventually put online. The guys really do like to have a laugh AND are great at what they do too. A teaser from the promo […]

EVILE PROMOS

Evile called me in to do their promos for their up and coming ‘For those who are about to tour” poster campaign. Amazing. We met up at a bar in North London and had a catch up, shoot and Subway (we all agreed Subway was the way to go for fast food) Shooting with them was fun and easy as we didn’t really have to do any warm up pictures as such having worked together many times before. Above is a small teaser from the shoot. As always I like to do funny pictures at the end if the bands/people are up for it and of course Evile said yes. Maybe I will post a few of them another time. I had to have a picture taken with the guys so called the barmaid over to grab a quick shot. Mike said to the others “let’s pick her up for a picture”, Ol says “nooo i don’t wanna do that” haha. It was quite comical.

EXODUS & EVILE IN LONDON, UK

Having worked with Evile on numerous occasions since 2007 their profile had increased – I was stoked that they got on a major tour with Exodus – a really great experience and opportunity for them! Shooting both bands for Ed Stone Rockwear was fun today! Exodus are of the best bands I’ve worked with on promo shoots. Rob Dukes had an amazing amount of poses and faces which made my job so much easier. They were so chatty too, with an offer of hanging out for a drink on the tour bus after the show with them all. I could tell that Exodus and Evile had been getting on really well so far as the banter and vibe between both bands was really great Evile stood just out of this shot and were trying to make the Exodus guys laugh. Evile then stepped in to harass Gary Holt and we took a fun picture. Then more fun photos were taken. It was best to make a collage out of these pictures as they’re all so comical. A super fun shoot with a bunch of great guys who know how to kill it on stage. Awesome!

DOWN IN BELGIUM – ‘FOUR DUDES AND ONE STAR’

A special trip for this shoot as my daughter Beth ‘MegaBeth’ as she calls herself, came with me for her first live show and photo shoot experience. Down were in town and I was shooting alongside friends Cindy and Rudy arranged by Roadrunner Europe. Venues are very different in Europe, you only get a few scattered fans outside the venue early and bands seem to be more chilled and willing to meet fans than in big cities like London. It was refreshing to see actually. We got to the venue and Down were sound checking. I took Beth in and we sat on the floor by the sound desk to watch. They were getting the levels right to ‘In the Thrall of it All’. Phil wasn’t happy with how the sound was so they took quite a bit of time on stage. I then got a call saying to get ready for the shoot. I took Beth backstage and we were told to set up the lights on the stage and have the amps as a background, I really liked that idea. Rudy took his pictures first, then Cindy then it was my turn. Phil turned and said to me […]

SLASH WITH VELVET REVOLVER

I write this completely on a high after 2 shows with Velvet Revolver. The first show as a fan in the crowd, the second as a photographer. As the lights dimmed, the crowd went wild as Slash came out right in front of where I was standing and everyone around me screams ‘Oh my god it’s Slash!!’ That guy is an icon. I listened to Guns ‘n’ Roses nonstop when their ‘Appetite for Destruction’ album came out. It influenced my life so much and I can still listen to it today without it even dating. Anyway, where was I…. I watched the lighting and stage moves as I didn’t want to miss a thing the next night with my camera. There are not many gigs I get excited to the stomach about shooting, but this was definitely one of them. The next night off I went with my camera, collected my pass and wandered into the photo pit and stood in front of Slash’s pedal board setting my camera to the lighting at the venue. I stood there thinking things couldn’t get more perfect, and then it occurred to me. I was never going to get the “Classic Slash” picture, […]
